Tips to help you take great photos of your home for sale | $ |

These days, many home buyers like to see photographs of a home before they take the time to actually view it in person. This is quite similar to the online shopping experience where you use photos and product descriptions to help narrow down your choices. Photographing inanimate objects is very different to photographing people. Likewise, thee are some very specific techniques that can be applied in order to make the photos of your home that much more inviting.

 Natural light

When you have the curtains closed and the lights on, the result can be less than desirable. Many photos come out with an almost yellow or orange appearance. In order to prevent this, make sure that you open your blinds or curtains and let the natural light inside. You can still leave some decorative lights on. They won't affect the color contrast of the image, but they will stand out as decorative accessories. The natural light helps the natural colors of that room stand out, and the image is that much more appealing. There's also far less distortion when you work with natural light.

Inspect your photos

Don't settle for second best. Take multiple photos of the same room and examine each one before you move on to the next area of your home. Look at every element of the image in order to determine whether you need to make any changes. Perhaps a cushion is out of place, or your rug isn't perfect. Taking more than one photo will also make it possible for you to choose from several options.

Angles

When standing in a room, your eye level is higher than the midpoint. Your photos will, therefore, either focus on the higher elements of the room or they will have a downward angle. Both are not the most desirable results. Take it down a notch and try taking photos while on your knees. If you have ever seen photographers snapping shots with their cameras at their waist, now you know why! It generates the most balanced result of all.

Select features

If you have any special design features in your home, you can showcase them with close up shots. Consider things like original design features or moldings that give your home undeniable character. Again, make sure that the lighting is just right so as to do these features justice.

No eyesores

Avoid photographing anything that looks even remotely unattractive. If you have any discolored walls, cracks, or chips, you might want to have them fixed before photographing your home. Some might recommend touching the faults up using a photo editor, but you must remember that the potential buyers will eventually visit your home, so there's no point in lying!

Steady with a tripod

This is somewhat connected to the level from which you take your photos. If you use a tripod, you will be able to adjust it properly in order to achieve the best results. Not only will you achieve the best angle but you also won't need to worry about shaky hands.

Straight shooting

When setting up to take the shot, make sure that your camera is parallel to the floor so that it captures all the most important elements in the room. This is one of the most important tips for those looking to generate professional looking photos.

No flash

Even if you don't use the lights in your home, you should never use the flash on your camera. The light from the flash has a way of reflecting on almost any surface which will distort your photos. It also alters the color contrast of the photo.
